"Be More & Do More in a Downturn Economy: Leveraging Volunteer Expertise in Today's Economy". WFYI, Indianapolis, IN

"At WFYI/Indianapolis, with decreasing staff and those left having to accept more responsibilities, volunteers are now arranging food for the food bank volunteers during both radio and television pledge drives. This time consuming task has been taken on by seasoned retired volunteers who spot new restaurants and other food sources by simply stopping and asking as they go about their daily lives in Indianapolis. Each has been equipped with information on what is needed, what is offered in return, and how to close the arrangement. The result has been a growing number of NEW food suppliers offering not only a wider variety of tastes for our faithful volunteers, but also giving greater visibility to local eateries who have not tapped into the public broadcasting in the past. This potentially will provide opportunity for new community support not only from the restaurants as potential funders but also from their customers as well as they hear their favorite eating place being featured as a food supporter."
